Genius ATEX: ANGEL React Ventures into Explosion‑Hazardous Atmospheres

ATEX classifications appear more often than you might think:

At petrol stations, in sawmills, food production facilities, chemical plants, or anywhere combustible materials are processed.
Anyone working in such environments needs safety equipment that functions reliably even under potentially explosive conditions.
It was therefore only logical that customers requested ATEX certification for ANGEL React — and we were happy to deliver.

What does ATEX mean?

ATEX is derived from French and stands for ATmosphères Explosives.
It describes working environments in which an explosive atmosphere may arise under certain circumstances:

  • from combustible dust (e.g. flour, wood dust, sugar — in bakeries, sawmills, food processing plants)
  • from flammable gases or vapours (e.g. at petrol stations, chemical plants, whisky distilleries)

In these areas, it must be ensured that devices cannot act as ignition sources under any circumstances.

Which certification does the Genius have?

The Genius ATEX is certified for:

  • EX II 3G Ex ic IIB T4 Gc
  • EX II 3D Ex ic IIIB T135 °C Dc

This means it is approved for environments such as:

  • gases of group IIB (e.g. ethylene)
  • non‑conductive dusts such as sugar, flour, wood or paper dust
  • combustible fibres larger than 500 µm, e.g. cotton or cocoa fibres
  • temperature ranges up to 135 °C

The Genius ATEX is not suitable for underground use.
The most important information, however: the Genius ATEX is certified for Zone 2/22.

What does 2/22 mean?

Zones 2 (gas) and 22 (dust) are areas considered to have a low level of risk.
An explosive atmosphere may occur — but:

  • not regularly,
  • not during normal operation,
  • and if it does occur, only for short periods.

Such environments are therefore not highly explosive but still require specific precautions when it comes to occupational safety.

That’s why we adapted our Genius accordingly.

What does this certification for zone 2/22 bring?

In short: many more application possibilities for ANGEL React.

In a large number of companies, Zones 2 or 22 exist somewhere. In a chocolate factory, this might be the cocoa storage area; at petrol stations, nearly all areas apart from tanks and pumps fall into this category.

With the new certification, you can use the Genius ATEX exactly in these areas and significantly improve employee protection.

Why zone 2/22 — why not aim higher?

A valid question — and yes, we naturally asked ourselves the same.
The answer: we listened to our customers. Zones 2 and 22 are the most common ATEX zones in businesses, and these are precisely the environments where ANGEL React is intended to be used.

Additionally, it is relatively easy to obtain a compatible smartphone for Zone 2/22 that can work together with the Genius.

This is why we deliberately chose Zone 2/22 — and were able to reduce development costs in the process.
As a result, we can offer the Genius ATEX at a very reasonable price. And that’s important to us as well.

And we also benefit a little …

We always enjoy fulfilling customer requests — but this time, there’s an extra perk:
We can now offer ANGEL React in whisky distilleries, chocolate factories, and other fascinating environments.
And who knows — maybe at the next on‑site visit, there’ll even be a little taste test.

The healthier the employees, the better the company functions

We have taken World Health Day on 7 April as an opportunity to deal with the topics of occupational medicine and occupational safety. We asked the occupational physician Dr. Ortrud Gräf. The doctor is on the board of the AMD Salzburg, the Society for Occupational Medicine, Safety Technology and Occupational Psychology.

ANGEL React: Occupational safety through rapid assistance

More than 100,000 occupational accidents occur every year in Austria, and more than eight times as many in Germany. Most of them are comparatively harmless, but a considerable number threaten health and life. This is often because an accident is discovered too late and help is provided too late. To prevent this from happening again, we have developed ANGEL.
